Welcome to the April 4 Weekly Summary with Mark Mullen. This week Mark reviews the annual report of the Public Defender, which Ucha Nanuashvili presented to Parliament.
One of the most interesting topics of the week was that Georgian Youth Lawyers’ Association representative and head of the Adjara Police Valeri Telia got into a fight. Mark with his guests emphasizes Irakli Garibashvili’s comment about the incident.
In the podcast Mark Mullen also remembers a story by the newspaper “Resonansi” which reported that Energy Minister Kakhi Kaladze had hired a businessman of Turkish origin as his deputy. This person had been a supporter of separatism in Adjara. Later “Resonansi” said it was an April fool’s joke.
Mark Mullen discusses the future celebration of Independence Day of Georgia, which may be another example of cohabitation in the Georgian government. Mark also mentions the newly restored Rabati castle in Akhaltsikhe, which government tends to repair.
Other topics of the week are: Tbilisi Sakrebulo mess, Giorgi Gugava will run in the election in Nadzaladevi district from the Labor Party, photographer non-spies, Erisioni in Russia, Onishchenko wants to try Georgian beer, scandalous Gvantsa Bagrationi and much more – So sit back and enjoy.

The original audio podcast version of this content can be found at TBLpod.com, recorded locally on Rustaveli Avenue. Each week Mark and his excellent team of researchers, experts and analysts put together a summary of what has happened in Georgia and why. Years of experience and contacts in this country help them provide a context for the news each week. Their discussions give a uniquely candid perspective, which is difficult to find anywhere else, even in Georgian, and which [we must note] is their personal opinion and not that of any organization or company they or we may work for or represent, including Palitra. For this reason Mark and his team have an audience from all over the world and, even more interestingly, a devoted audience of Georgian listeners interested in their outlook on current events. Thanks for tuning in. Please come back next week.
