Respect paid to the memory of seven fallen Georgian soldiers in Afghanistan

Defense Minister Irakli Alasania traveled to Afghanistan from Brussels to attend the June 7 ceremony to pay respects to the memory of the seven Georgian service members killed in an insurgent attack on their base in the Helmand province.
The ceremony – in which bodies of the soldiers were flown to the Lazernick province base - was also attended by ISAF Commander General Joseph Dunford, his deputy Lieutenant General Nick Patrick Carter, ISAF Joint Command Chief Lieutenant General Mark Milley and Regional Command Southwest Commander Major General Walter Miller.
Corporals Teimuraz Ortavidze and Giorgi Adamov, Private First Class Zurab Gurgenashvili, Privates Mikheil Narindoshvili, Boris Tsugoshvili, Private First Class Zviad Sulkhanishvili and Private First Class Giorgi Ghutchashvili, all service members of the IV Infantry Brigade, 42nd Battalion, died in the June 6 insurgent attack on their unit base. Bodies of the soldiers are expected to be flown to Georgia on Sunday.
