Some restaurants have started banning customers from taking photos of their food, “the New York Times” reports, quoting several chefs in New York City. Georgians like to take pictures at the table; this is a part of national tradition, especially while they are hosting guests, close friends and relatives. One can find plenty of pics on Facebook, Instagram, Livejournal, Twitter and other social networks.

In many parts of Georgia fewer than half of the children go to any type of preschool before school starts. Even in Tbilisi, it is lower than international averages. Over the last several years there have been several studies that have shown the advantages of just a few hours a day of preschool. Some studies have gone on over decades, and have looked at children who went to pre-school from the age of three until school starts usually at age six and compared them with children from similar backgrounds who didn't.

The good news about the Internet and its most visible component, the World Wide Web, is that there are hundreds of millions of pages available, waiting to present information on an amazing variety of topics. The bad news about the Internet is that there are hundreds of millions of pages available, most of them titled according to the whim of their author, almost all of them sitting on servers with cryptic names. Writing this column, I am often accused in the various forums of looking down on Georgia, of being judgemental and having a sense of superiority. Here's an example from a forum about the Georgian version:

Perhaps one of the most important aspects that shape a country’s essence is tourism. Hospitality is an art that every nation’s people should master. It is how a country welcomes a foreigner that really reflects its image back to the world. Being a native Georgian, I never had a chance to experience what it is like to be a tourist in Tbilisi. I did however live in Egypt for sixteen years before moving to the United States. This is a recollection of my last day in Egypt, before I headed off to a different world. I was a tourist in Cairo, and am a tourist now as well. I’ve been a tourist for my entire life.
