Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev says Prime Minister Ivanishvili made a brave statement when he said Mikheil Saakashvili was responsible for the August 2008 conflict. He highly evaluated the above-mentioned statement of the Georgian Prime Minister in his interview with the Russia Today TV. "It is enough to recall what Georgian Prime Minister Ivanishvili said. He said the truth: ‘Saakashvili! You provoked everything and fueled the conflict. "Probably, it was difficult to say, but these were brave words," said Dmitry Medvedev.
Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev also stated that in August 2008, until the last moment, he hoped Georgia would stop escalation of the conflict. He said the conflict "deeply penetrated" in his memory and he will never forget the August days.
"I, of course, remember how it all began, what was going on. I remember the dramatic nature of this situation and the need to take not so easy decision. This was really difficult decision in the life of an ordinary human being and in the young president's biography, which had spent less than 90 days on the president’s post," said Medvedev.
Medvedev stressed that he had information about "mobilization and provocations near South Ossetia" a few days before "the attack carried out by Georgia".
Medvedev said he hoped that the Georgian government and the president would have had enough wisdom not to create the problems that they created.
"As for the conflict night, there was shooting and the situation was tense. However, until the last moment, we hoped they would stop", said Medvedev.
The Russian Prime Minister said that after all this he had the make "the most difficult decision" on launching military actions.
"I want to say once again. This is a difficult decision and I would not wish anything like this to a leader of any country," said Medvedev.
