In 100 days after the formation of the new Government, Georgian Defense Minister Irakli Alasania presented the document called “Minister’s Vision” to the public and foreign partners. This paper is supposed to be adopted as a guideline for the ministry for the next two years.

Mountain Military Training School that derives from the 16th mountain batallion formed in 1991, continues special mountain training of Georgian and NATO troops designed for a winter period.
In the framework of Partnership for Peace NATO Program, 19 military officers from Georgia, Ukraine and Poland are engaged on almost one-month long special course from 20 January till 15 February. Since the resignation of Anatoliy Serdiukov from his post of Russian Defense Minister last autumn almost every week we witness scandals ravaging this ministry. “French Mistrals cannot endure Russian freeze because they are designed to operate at minus 7 degrees Celsius at most,” – declared Russian Vice-PM Dmitriy Rogozin on 26 January.

Three Georgian military servicemen have been wounded in Afghanistan. Corporal Erekle Kharshiladze and Junior Sergeant Iago Kakulia were patrolling when insurgents opened fire.
