Former Defense Minister Bacho Akhalaia said he considered the attitude of the court towards him to be “shocking”. Akhalaia said during the court process that he had spent four months in detention for “no justified reason whatsoever” and explained why the defense team refused to be prosecuted under a sworn court jury by saying if the prosecution was going to keep releasing testimonies like those of Gaga Mkurnalidze, there could be “no talk of a sworn jury.”

Khelvachauri municipality head and his deputy Temur Sharabidze were arrested by the Anti-corruption Agency, with Lortkipanidze having been moved to the preliminary detention facility, while Sharabidze was taken by ambulance on a stretcher out of the municipality building to a hospital.

The Venice Commission has remarks with regard to Article 22 of the Law on Amnesty.
According to the Venice Commission report, article 22 of the Law on Amnesty, provides for discharge from criminal responsibility and punishment of persons who have been granted politically imprisoned or persecuted status by virtue of the Resolution of the Parliament of Georgia.
