“Euro parliament members want to protect Vano Merabishvili?”

Many interesting and curious events are happening in the world, even today, and many more unheard and otherwise fantastic stories are being heard. They are so outrageous that they are hard to believe. One of them is a story of state-sanctioned tortures and cold bloodied murders. One of such events took place on July 12, 2013 when Jacek Protasiewicz, Vice President of European Parliament and four other members of Europarliament, including some famous and well-known figures - Krzysztof Lisek, member of the European People’s Party, visited Vano Merabishvili, ex-MIA Minister in a Georgia prison, officially called Prison No 9, to personally familiarize himself with the dire condition in the jail and the plight of a specific inmate.
The case looks fascinating and amusing; it’s almost ironic. Well-known Russian writers of detectives brothers Vainer wrote a bestseller novel titled: “Visit to the Minotaur”, where a monster from an old Greek myth used to live in underground darkness and terrified human beings with its rage and fury. This story comes to mind, especially after hearing various chilling information, evoking a cognitive association; I recollect the content and title of the novel—as the comparison to the now confined former Minister of Internal Affairs Vano Merabishvili, whose crimes reminds the deeds of that monster.
When the information was spread, it was mentioned: “Merabishvili is charged with having falsified evidence in order to obscure the truth regarding the murder of a bank employee in 2006”. Sandro Girgvliani was a young man in the prime of his life; he was a good student with bright future. It is apparent that the crime had been committed in collaboration with the high-ranking officials, as the case was brought before the European Court of Human Rights, which ruled against Georgia in one of the most damning verdicts, issued against the fledgling democracy. What is the meaning of “other serious charges”? This phrase implies a lot of things for anyone, who knows Georgian human rights issues and shadowy political reality, especially since the 2003 Rose Revolution and the cloak of impunity that has covered many murders and human rights violations. At present, in the light of recent Georgian political developments, some interesting events must be properly considered, and direct or indirect involvement of the ex-Minister and portrait of the architect of fascist regime in vius. The man, who was not only a merchant of death but a grim coordinator of the killing spree that was inflicted upon the Georgian people. Here are only a few examples.
Here are some samples of the work of the Georgian “Minotaur”, which reflect the degree of impunity that the Minister had, together with the so-called pro Western democratically elected government. Perhaps, the following list may explain why some people are so concerned over his treatment and welfare.
* Mysterious political murder of Prime-minister Zurab Zhvania on 3 February, 2005 (later at least five other persons died under mysterious circumstances, including Raul Usupov, Deputy Governor of Kvemo Kartli region, who died together with the Georgian Prime Minister under the most strange of circumstances, and Levan Samkharauli, Chief of the Trial-Medical Examination Bureau. (By the way, according to the Chief Prosecutor of Georgia Archil Kbilashvili, the death case of the former chief of the trial-medical examination Levan Samkharauli is being reopened). At the time of murder, Vano Merabishvili was the Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia;
* Inhuman breaking up and “disbanding” of a peaceful rally on November 7, 2007 in downtown of Tbilisi using tear gas, non-lethal weapon prohibited by the international law, clubs, and the intentional ransacking of well-known opposition TV-Imedi and beating of the journalists, including foreign employees of TV.
* Bloody crackdown, equal to the Pinochet Junta’s atrocities committed at the rally on May 26, 2011, which ended with several dead and some missing participants; at least four people died and thousands were tortured and physically abused; several persons lost their eyes, when they were shot at almost point blank with rubber bullets;
* In 2013, a massive cargo was sent took to Belarus; it was transited through Georgia with full awareness of the authorities that it was an illegal shipment of heroin to Europe. Having considered Vano Merabishvili’s close links with Belarusian law enforcers, and the MIA’s cozy connection with key high-level officials, it is clear that this was not a single shipment but a regular shipment, as the transit route had been used intensively during Merabishvili’s ministerial term, including shipments to Italy.
* Here is a direct witness citation of one of the inmates, who was held at Gldani#8 Maximum Security Prison; Koba Matkava was repeatedly tortured following his arrest on April 11, 2011, when Vano Merabishvili was serving as the Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia:
“I was taken to the Zugdidi police department, where Georgian police officers started to beat and torture me...Their methods of torture were awful! They beat my heels with baseball bats until I had the feeling that my head and brains were glued to the ceiling. Then they continued with electric shock treatment... they kept cussing me all the time with incredible words... all their acts were means of trying to get me to confess to organizing the explosions at the Police and Fire Service buildings in Zugdidi, a town in West Georgia, and sign documents they had given to me admitting to the alleged act of terrorism. At the same time they were torturing Eldar Kobalia … and he was beaten and raped with a police baton. He later died as a result of the torture. One police officer made several phone calls to someone during the torture, saying: “He does not wish to either confess or to sign anything”. Then he asked: “What do we have to do”? I heard the person at the other end saying: “Wait, I have to think more, I`ll call you back and make a decision in this regard.”
These are only a few examples of the widespread brutality, associated with Vano Merabishvili - Georgian “Minotaur”. I can present more materials about widespread criminal deeds, that are based on my own experience. Europarliament members should take notice: “Please, check carefully the history and CV-background of a man to whom you just paid a visit”. Perhaps, you may also want to pay a visit to many others sitting in the same prison; to those, who are kept there as a result of having been tortured or their families being threatened. Many others are dead, or are rotting in prison, while others fled the country, ‘thanks’ to the same man and his system that you now seek to protect.
