Two thousand and six hundred sketches illustrating the life of a saint were the material of the animation turned into a most talked about film of recent times.
The eighty-six actors involved in the film tell the story of St Nino.
There were four thousand applications and the same number of refusals during the casting. Director Giorgi Kereselidze spent two years looking for the actress who would play the title role. Eyes and facial appearance were the main criteria during the selection that finally came down to Nitsa Kapanadze.
Nitsa Kapanadze – age sixteen – is still studying in school. Along with the responsibility, acting in the film is associated with fear and certain sacrifice for her. She refused a modeling career to take part in the shooting.
Shooting is scheduled to begin in September and feature numerous popular actors.
Filming will take place in Georgia, Cappadocia, Rome and Jerusalem. The director hopes the audience will leave the two-hour viewing of the life of St Nino with tears in their eyes and positive emotions.
