His father Lutz Wolfgang is a dentist whose late father undertook a journey to North Africa around 60 years ago, at a time when genuine mummies were still bought and sold. He maintains that the attic mummy must have been sitting in the attic for at least 40 years.
The Kettlers told the Bild newspaper they plan to drive the mummy, which does not have an unpleasant odor they say, to Berlin where it can be properly examined by local experts.
