Musician Nukri Abashidze created four compositions especially for him – Chibo Extrovert, Fire Woman, Jazz Time and Cool Party. Since then, Kakha Sarajishvili uses nickname Chibo Extrovert by which he presented himself to the modern audience at Scarlet Sales Bar on May 22. He gave the performance that was titled ‘It Can Be a Dream“ with the healthy slogan ‘No to drugs, No to Smoking’. Similar parties may become frequent, if this one proves successful.

Last week the Swiss Embassy dedicated to the retrospective of the Swiss classic movies that was held within the framework of the German month. Three countries were involved, as the German-speaking states – Germany, Switzerland and Austria. However, in this case, the Swiss side offered film screening to the Georgian spectators.

On May 18, on the World Museum Day, Dimitri Shevardnadze National Gallery hosted an unique exhibition – the first full-scale display of the works of one of the most prominent Georgian painters who is written in the Georgian art history with golden letters – Davit Kakabadze.

ON May 5, on the orthodox Easter Day great guitarist Lee Ritenour arrived to give a concert at Tbilisi Event Hall together with distinguished musicians such as Jesse Milliner on Keys, Melvin Davis on Bass, Sonny Emory on Drums. As usual, the Hall was full.

On April 26, Museum of Art presented over 100 works of Vladimer Kandelaki in painting and graphic art.
The painter’s works are multifaceted, which is confirmed by his diverse creativity. His artworks represent the synthesis of plastics and dynamics, realism and imagination. Thanks to his original and peculiar style, Vladimer Kandelaki used to astonish the public. Since 1990, his many expositions have taken place in Tbilisi, Washington DC, Philadelphia, Atlanta – this is an incomplete list of towns, where his personal exhibitions were held. Within the years, the painter’s virtuoso technique becomes more and more sophisticated, while he is carrying on new experiments.

In 2011, by the decision of UNESCO, April 30, was proclaimed to be an International Day of Jazz. Its goal was to highlight the global importance of jazz and realize how it has penetrated into numerous cultures. UNESCO has ratified the mandate of celebrating the event that would boost the communication and understanding among nations. This year, Georgia too has joined the 70 countries celebrating this day, marking the date by the concert of Tbilisi Municipality Big Band and its friends at the Tbilisi Event Hall.

For her, painting is not a mere technique of creatin g the pieces of art, but something more important. That’s why, one of the most prominent Georgian artists advised her not to leave the department of arts, as her style didn’t fit any frames. Kristine Robakidze followed this wise advice. Now she is an art historian and a self-taught painter but a very interesting one and nobody will ever dare to confer to her any limits and particular genres, as her talent is limitless and her ideas and fantasy are endless. Her exhibition with the interrogative title “Angel, Where Is Your Shadow?” opened on April 28, at Georgian National Library.

Stacey Kent, born in New Jersey, USA, has moved to UK to study there. Since 1990, her career was taking off at Cafe Boheme in London’s Soho. Her first album ‘Close your Eyes’ was released in 1997. Since then, Kent released 9 albums. In 2002, Stacey received BBC Award as the Best Vocalist. Her Albums ‘The Boy Next Door’ and ‘Breakfast on the Morning Tram’ have been certified Golden and Platinum discs in France. In 2011, Stacey released an album titled ‘Dreamer in Concert’, which is the first live album of hers, recorded at La Cigale Theatre, Paris. The Georgian audience had a pleasure to listen to ‘Dreamer In Concert’ live at Tbilisi Event Hall on April 20.

On April 18, the personal exhibition of Levan Mosiashvili titled “Georgia in Love” opened at the National Library of the Parliament of Georgia. The painter has been working in France for the past 18 years and is one of the most successful Georgian artists in Europe. This fact was confirmed by his personal expositions held at various prestigious galleries of different countries. This is his first exhibition in his homeland.

Georgian Journal contacted Irine Giviashvili, art historian, a research fellow of Giorgi Chubinashvili National Center of Georgian Art History and Monument Protection, who resides in Ireland and asked her to talk about the negotiations between Georgian and Turkish sides about the faults of restoration process and future development.

On April 18, Georgian delegation in Turkey will discuss the Ishkhani issue and find ways of collaboration of Georgian and Turkish specialists during the restoration process of Tao Klarjeti historical monuments. The works that began unexpectedly at Ishkhani church, discovered the 11th century floor that belomgs to a rarity. The works that were performed without supervision of specialists, caused damage to the floor layer and part of the wall of the church. Both sides were discussing the ways of including of Georgian side in the restoration of monuments as it is crucial and important.

The beginning of restoration works in Ishkhani church and new discovery provoked reaction from state organizations as well as from scientists. The working process, which is going on without supervision of specialists creates big danger for Georgian monument and already caused damage to the 11th century floor that was discovered unexpectedly. Minister of Culture of Georgia Guram Odisharia made comment on the issue:

Tbilisi and Georgian audience is not pampered with live concerts of Brazilian music. There was an exception on April 6, when the invited guests at Georgian State Conservatoire had the pleasure to listen to the Trio Baru from Brazil.
